How can I give my plain kitchen cabinet doors a new look?
They're old cabinets, just plain with no trim or anything. I'm looking for do-it-yourself cheap ways to give them a new look. They are painted, so I will stay with a painted finish. Any ideas would be appreciated.

re-design the cabinets, re-paint and re-arrange everything.
Change out the knobs or pulls, put on appliques (stick ons that will pull off and not hurt the paint) or repaint.
A really great trick you can do is get bead board and glue it on then trim the edges with 1 x 3" wood. http://www.canaancabinetry.com/showroom/1CarriageHouse.jpg
Add top and bottom molding and change the knobs voila!
Bead board is available in most home improvement stores in the paneling section…it comes in wood and white in 4′ x 4′ sheets normally.

The 1 x 3" boards are not mitered just straight cuts http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/07/p_MPC107929.jpg
This will cost about 100$ for 20 running feet.
Another trick..If you can miter.. is take the top cabinet over the stove and build it out with a 2 x 4 (2ea 2 x 4 strips in back) then hang the cupboard that will add some dimension to a flat look. Also…you can bring a few top cabinet doors to get mitered out and glass inset. I paid 50$ to do the 2 cabinets next to the sink then added a hole to the top cabinet for a light. I also replaced the shelves in those cabinets with glass.

Adding decorative deck rail posts gets you the legged look
Finally another thing you can do is put the tin ceiling tiles on them and trim it out. http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/how-to-antique-tin-for-cabinet-doors/index.html
