There are several different finishes you could use, begin by researching the different ways of refinishing kitchen cabinets. There are hundreds of books that have been published that will give you a step by step guide showing you how to achieve your chosen finish. You could also look online for tips and ideas. There are several great sites with some really helpful information.
There are a lot of different ways of refinishing kitchen cabinets. If you are happy with the kitchen in general but just want a change then, providing the cabinets are in good condition you could reface all the doors and drawer fronts using new laminate or, if they are good solid wood, you could sand them right down to the original wood and add a modern, up to date stain and glaze.
You could also add a glass panel to one or two of your cabinets to display your best china when you refinish them, to give your kitchen a completely new feel.
You could go for a shiny, high gloss painted finish in a bright primary color for the doors and drawer fronts if you are looking for a modern trendy type of kitchen or you could opt for the distressed look if you want a more traditional looking kitchen. When deciding on a color for your cabinets, pick up a color chart form your local store along with a couple of sample pots of paint.
It really helps to try the color on your cabinets to see if it will look as good on the doors etc., as it does on the can. Take time with the planning because you will want to be sure that you know that your refinished kitchen cabinets will look as good as you imagined. To add even more to the look of your refinished kitchen cabinets you could change the knobs or hinges on the doors and drawers to a style that will complement your new look.
So, to have a completely new kitchen at a very affordable price, consider refinishing your kitchen cabinets rather than purchasing new ones. If your cabinets are in good structural condition it makes sense to utilize the ones you have and simply giving them an overhaul.
