My studio apt is small. I want a modern look, what stain should I use for wood floors and kitchen cabinets?

   I would use a light stain on the floors and cabinets. My house is small and we have both dark floors and cabinets. It makes the room look even smaller, and it is also a bear to clean! If you don’t like the lighter stains go for something in the medium tones then. Just avoid the dark.

   "Modern" ?

   The Modern movement of the 50s – 60′s was all about plastics. Formica and such.
   The Modern movement really began in the 40′s but was pretty much dead by the 70′s when everything became "Earth Tones" in a direct response to too much plastic.
   Sorry, I dont know what wood stain to suggest, but wood in the 50′s was VERY pale – almost white washed. Good luck

   since your apt is small, i wouldn’t recommend a dark stain. maybe a honey colored stain or a cherry finish. cherry would be more modern looking but not super dark.
