There are hundreds of books that have been published that will give you a step by step guide showing you how to achieve your chosen finish. You could also look online for tips and ideas. There are a lot of different ways of refinishing kitchen cabinets. If you are happy with the kitchen in general but just want a change then, providing the cabinets are in good condition you could reface all the doors and drawer fronts using new laminate or, if they are good solid wood, you could sand them right down to the original wood and add a modern, up to date stain and glaze.
