Cabinets are probably 20 yrs. old and seem to have never been cleaned! I'm using Murphy's Oil soap, but there is still "grime" near the handles. I'm afraid I will remove the finish on the doors and don't want another project! This house is 55 yrs old and has plenty of projects already :)
I have tried Murphy's Oil Soap. The icky grime is still not rubbing off. It must be years of accumulation. I did take the handles off (you don't want to know what those looked like). I don't want to remove the varnish or finish of the cabinets and have a major project on my hands. What is the name of a "degreaser" that you would recommend?
Thanks for the help!

My doors are soft maple and the cabinetry is solid wood, but not the maple used for the doors.

Any idea of the cost? Would it be cheaper to just paint the cabinets and replace the doors?

Thank you.
btw.....We would like to paint them white, if that matters at all.

Have an inside look at the cabinet manufacturing process employed at the Home Improvement Source. We'll show how these cabinets are made using solid furniture grade plywood with veneer to match the wood species and stain selected for customers' doors. Also, the process of making solid wood doors in the on-site door shop is detailed to show the superior manufacturing proccesses used at the Home Improvement Source.

I bought unfinished kitchen cabinets and i am primering, painting, and glazing them. they are to be white with a dark colored glaze. how do i use the glaze to achieve the "border" around the inside of the doors? I was told to treat it like stain...just rub it on and wipe it off, but I am not sure what I'm really doing and the directions on the bottle are pretty much non-existent. just says to follow the directions in the lowes faux how-to guide, and i don't have that. thanks for any detailed help you can give!
I have some glaze from lowes. it's in a jug, so it's not going to be sprayed. it's a colored glaze that is supposed to settle into the "crevices" in the edge of the doors...the lady told me to treat it just like stain, but i have practiced with it and it leaves color on the paint also, do i need to wash off the excess?....

I purchased my house two years ago. The house was built in 1950. The kitchen cabinets are original with the house. I'd like to update the kitchen, but would hate to replace the cabinets because a. they're solid wood b. there is nothing really wrong with them, with the exception of the lower base needing a good re-sanding and paint job. c. trying to save time and money. The drawers definitely need replacing and although the doors are in good condition, they're basically just a slab. Very outdated. I found places online. Not sure who is reputable. Some so cheap it's hard to believe. I've wondered if Lowe's or Home Depot offer this type of service. Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to stain my kitchen cabinets again. The doors are real wood, but the rest of the cabinets look like press board. I don't want to paint them. I would like to re-stain them. Is this possible? Does anyone have any tips on how I can do this to make my cabinets look great again?

I bought a house and the cabinets are unattractive. I saw at Lowes about "refacing"??? I also saw a look called the "casual kitchen" where there are no doors and the cabinets are painted. What do you think would be best?

Hi there so I've decided to replace my old kitchen cabinets with new doors. I'm going to have remove the old hinges (the mounting plates) from the inside of the cabinets because they don't line up with the newer hinges. There are two screws..philips head I thought would take care of them but the moment I start trying to unscrew them they move about a 1/4 turn counterclock wise and then they just don't move anymore...no matter how hard I turn! I thought maybe it was a bum screw but all the mounting plate screws have this little give and then that's it...no more movement. I'm guessing there's some sort of jacket holding the screw?? Any hints on how to get these screws out would be greatly appreciated.

I have a brand new house. 8 months old. i have 2 15 week old puppies that are starting to chew on the corners of the kitchen cabinets (not the doors)

There isnt much damage, it isnt too noticeable, but I want to be able fix what little damage they caused.

Is there some sort of a corner guard that I can put on the edge of the cabinet that will stop them from chewing on the actual cabinet?
Sorry i am not asking what products to stop the puppies from chewing...im asking if there is a type of "corner guard " wood piece that I can put on the cabinets.
