I live in a 1977 mobile home. The kitchen cabinet doors are horrible! They are a dark wood with dark brown ugly painted trim around the edges. I was thinking I could strip them down and re-stain them. Would that work? I can't afford new cabinets. I want a lighter color to match the counter tops and the rest of the cabinet.
Also, do I need to sand down the varnish that's on there now?
I am getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets. They are original in the house built 1952. Years of paint on them and not wanting to strip it all off. My question is besides sanding, do I start with a deglosser or TSP ok? Also should I use an oil based primer and paint and why?
Thanks
I have new oak kitchen cabinets that I would like to put an additonal coat of clear finish.
Can I use urethane and if so - water based or oil based?? If not urethane, what can I use?
Do I have to pay sales tax on new kitchen cabinets if the company that I am buying them from is also installing them? I live in Florida, and I am under the impression that if the cabinets become a permanent part of the house, there is no sales tax. However, the remodeler that I am using says that he has to charge sales tax. Am I getting rooked?
I'm concerned about the quality of the existing sealant. Can I seal over whatever finish is on them. They have just been installed.
Hi there so I've decided to replace my old kitchen cabinets with new doors. I'm going to have remove the old hinges (the mounting plates) from the inside of the cabinets because they don't line up with the newer hinges. There are two screws..philips head I thought would take care of them but the moment I start trying to unscrew them they move about a 1/4 turn counterclock wise and then they just don't move anymore...no matter how hard I turn! I thought maybe it was a bum screw but all the mounting plate screws have this little give and then that's it...no more movement. I'm guessing there's some sort of jacket holding the screw?? Any hints on how to get these screws out would be greatly appreciated.
