What can I use on my kitchen cabinets?
I'm in a manufactured home with that awful phony wood look cabinets. I don't want to take the time to sand & prime & paint, but really would like them white.
I was thinking about using some thin slats for a fence effect since I want to do a retro type theme.
Anyone have some great ideas?? Thanks

Go to your local cabinet manufacture or if none to local building supply store. Take dimensions of room and of existing cabinets, price out cabinets you want and install your self. This is not really a difficult job and makes the new kitchen at reasonable price. Or if just going to paint use Tri sodium phosphate solution and wash cabinets then rince well and use a good melomine paint.
If you wipe them down with a liquid sandpaper, you may be able to apply a primer and then the paint. That would be one way. Another way is to make new doors. Maybe just make the top ones and see how much you have in them. Make a frame out of picture frame molding from the building supply place and then with the groove in the back, you can put in glass or Plexiglas, or even slats of wood, or a solid piece of maybe 1/4" plywood that is nicely finished on one side or both sides. That way you could paint the frame one color and the insert another color. Or you could take 1/4" finished plywood and nail it with brads right onto the doors. You have a lot of options. Some of the doors can be taken off all together and get baskets to fit the shelves. Or leave the doors off completely on the upper cupboards and hang curtains over the bottom ones like they did years ago.
How abt white paper on that wood and clean pure glass on that paper, u’ll get wat u need, I think so….
I have a mobile home with those same flat cheap cabinets. I painted mine white using a regular semi gloss latex paint & it worked fine. I didn’t sand or prime first, but I did clean them well. They look much better, but are still too plain for me. I was thinking about getting some molding & attaching it to the doors, then cutting out the inside & inserting glass panes, attaching them with silicone caulk. Then just using the molding on the rest of the cabinets so they match.
