What kind of primer and paint should I use on kitchen cabinets?
I'm thinking about painting my wooden kitchen cabinets but I heard that I should use a "gripper" primer, which I can't seem to find anywhere. Can I use any primer or should I keep searching? Also, What kind of paint would be the most durable for the kitchen since I wipe them down often? Thanks!

You want to lightly sand your cabinets first before painting them. You should use a good quality latex gloss or semi-gloss paint. Either of those would be washable. .I prefer latex because it is water wash up and better for the environment. There are some great non-toxic paints listed for kids rooms that would work good for kitchen cabinets. I would use them.
My contractor recommends Kilz especially for a kitchen.
As far as paint brands, I have never been disappointed with Sherwin Williams paints. They might be a tad more expensive, but the coverage and durability is phenomenal. Their staff also makes great recommendations for remodeling. For example, I had a pernicious mold problem around my bathroom windows. They directed me to a product that can be added to paints that prevents mold. It was great.
I have used this additive extensively in my basement as well.
Kilz is a good primer. Latex based simi-gloss or gloss paint because it is washable.
I’ve used Kilz primer for that kind of job several times. It works great! It also takes care of water damage stains if you have them. Be sure to open all the windows or paint the cabinets outside, the fumes are powerful!

go to Benjamin Moore and get their primer, Kilz is cheap and not a quality primer. i would also go with a BM paint for your cabinets..
"Gripper" is ICI Gliddens product which is an excellent product, you can get where ever they sell Glidden products, home depot will sell it BUT I would use another primer called "Cover Stain" made by Zinseer same company that makes "Bins". Lightly scuff up your cabinets with 100 grit sand paper prime and 2 finish coats of paint for finish paint you can use either oil or water based paint I prefer oil because you’ll get a better looking finish and believe it or not it’s easier to work the only plus about water based is easier to clean up (yourself & equipment) dries quicker and less fumes BUT you can add a japan drier to speed the dry time and use a window fan to exhaust the fumes this is all your preference, remember for a quality looking job use quality paint and equipment, Bher paint dries way too fast and is a prime example of poor quality.
