Generally speaking, your floor should be darker. Maple cabinets with maple floor? Hmm. That’s alot of maple in my opinion. Have you thought about anything else for your cabinets? Sometimes its better to introduce a variety of materials into the scheme.
if the room is big enough i would go a darker cabinet but not too dark like a medium
What color is your floor ? If you are going light on the cabinets-dark on the floor. Visa-versa if the floor light.
One of my clients and I were just talking about this. I am a kitchen designer and maple is one of the most popular types of cabinets we sell
I think it’s important to try and choose a wood that is similar to your floor, but not too similar. If the colors are really REALLY close but not exact, it’ll look like you tried to match and failed. It is okay to have the floor be slightly darker or slightly lighter than the cabinets. If your floors look like natural maple (very light and yellowish), a light maple cabinet with a slightly warm-redish tint looks nice. Just a couple shades darker than natural. Usually Maple cabinets aren’t stained too dark anyway; the darker maple gets, the splotchier it gets.
If your floor was a completely different material, like tile, you could go for as much contrast as you want. But when mixing wood cabinets with wood floors, it is currently most fashionable for them to blend as opposed to contrast. And like I said before, blending doesn’t necessarily mean matching! It is kind of like when you pick up a swatch of paint colors in a hardware store. Each paint sample strip will have 4 to 6 colors on it. All are similar, but the top ones are lighter and the bottom ones are darker. They would all compliment each other, though, because they are from the same color and tone family. Think of complimenary wood colors the same way.
The display I sit at at work has red oak floor with a light maple cabinet. The light maple has a reddish tint ot it. Even though the wood types are different, they both have that reddish hue that make them compliment each other. Keep that in mind when picking your cabinets. How much contrast you want in your kitchen is completely preference. Even if your floors and cabinets are light and similar to each other, if you want contrast, get a striking darker countertop
It looks beautiful.
Sorry to ramble, hope it helps! I wish I could have you to my showroom so I could show you what I mean.
