First clean the surface well, then go over the surface with a light sandpaper. Lowe’s/Home Depot both carry Minwax products in their paint department.
First you want to apply a coat of matching Minwax stain to even out the coloring of the wood. Be sure the wipe off the extra stain with a rag. Give the cabinet a day to dry thoroughly.
The next day apply a coat of Minwax Polyshade, it’s a combination of stain and polyurethane. I usually rub this on with a rag, be sure to cover the whole door/drawer/cabinet front with this product and wipe off any excess. Usually one coat of Polyshade is enough, but in severe dry wood you may want to use two coats.
are they wood? if so, give them a good scrubbing with soap and water then wipe them down with Orange Glo.
Try lemon oil if the wood is dry. You may have to reapply depending on how dry the wood is.
I assume you mean you are selling your house. Just leave them as they are. The first thing people want to do when they move in is renovate the kitchen. There’s no use putting money into it. It won’t enhance the value of your house plus people always want to put their own mark on a place.
I had the same problem and applied one coat of shellac to the cupboards and cabinets. It darkened the wood slightly but gave them a nice shiney appearance. My small kitchen used two quart cans. I also installed new door and drawer pulls. The entire project took maybe 10 hours. Very happy with the outcome.
try liquid gold.
Lowes I believe has a product called Magic something in its cleaning area, it is in a blue plastic bottle with a squirt handle and it lusters up the cabinets, I use it myself they look nice and clean and shiney when you are done/
Paint them a light pastel—not white. I like a light yellow or a light burnt orange. It will freshen up the kitchen and put a fancy, classy look to dull cabinets. Good luck selling the house.
Use some murphys oil on them and the shine will be on again. You can also use scotts liquid gold for the shine.Make it cheap on you and easy.Just follow directions.
