Call several contractors in your area…tell them you are looking for used cabinets..when they pull old ones that are decent, perhaps they can call you, offer them something for the tip, and haul them off. You will have to be willing to settle for some difficult laying out, because you will not have the luxury of picking sizes…they will be what they will be. But I have found some real winners doing this.
Your neighbors house when they’re at work.
Contact a carpenter that specializes in renovations, he throws away tons of old cabinets every month. Just say, "Hey, buddy, do you think you could save one of those cabinets for me? I’ll give you a few bucks for it." If you ask nice, they may let you have it for nothing. Their reputation is their lifeblood, and they often don’t mind doing favors.
We have a restore store here in my town and they are popping up all over in cities. Look it the phone book or find one online in your town or a close by town. They pulled some nice cabinet (oak) out of some military housing and donated to this restore store and I put them in my garage for storage. Neighbors think I paid an arm and a leg to cabinet my garage.
Check out IKEA, they’re not used, but they are really cheap
