Where would I be able to find used cabinets/counter tops?

   Do some research and see if there is a building materials recycling or "freecycle" group in your area, We have a on-profit one in our city called "Construction Junction" that has all kinds of salvaged and surplus building materials — when people are replacing old kitchens, these guys come and take out all the cabinets and appliances and then sell them — they always have 10 or 12 complete sets of cabinets for sale. Also look in your local Craigslist listing s under "free" or "materials" or just do a search in the "search" box for "kitchen cabinets".. A lot of people advertise to sell or give away their old kitchens on there when they remodel. You could also post your own ad on there, stating you will come and remove them free of charge if someone is remodeling (provided you have the skills and tools to do that yourself.)

   Also check with custom kitchen showrooms – they often have a "scratch and dent" or factory overstock room with great deals. It is not unusual for wealthy people to special order cabinets and then decide they don’t like them and have them pulled out before the job is done. You can buy these for half or less the cost of new.

   You may want to try contacting your local "Habitat for Humanity". Not only do they take donations of old sinks, counter-tops, and other non-wanted housing material, they also, in some places, will sell things to others for a faction of the price a salvage yard would ask for it.
